I reach out to the body as a whole, whatever the pathology; I look at the body from head to toe. We cannot reduce the osteopathic approach to a purely mechanical vision, which is far too simplistic in such a complex being, forgetting the energetic, emotional and spiritual dimensions…”
This is the way Romain defines his practice as an osteopath, which he carries out thanks to his attentive listening and great sensitivity.
Romain does not count time; he deals with his practice with great passion. “I take the time it takes, the time that each body requires.”
Romain’s practice is quite unique. From a mix of influences like Chinese medicine, reiki or kinesiology, Romain feels the body. He is guided by his energetic reading, also considering the entire environment of his patient. He knows how to draw from several disciplines to make his own truth, which makes his practice singular. Curious, eager to learn, to be nourished by various approaches, he studies endlessly, trains through provoked or impromptu encounters as well as readings. Eclectic, he is always eager to try, test, explore.
“Understanding the body is an infinite task. The physical and the spiritual, the visible and the invisible, all blend together to form a whole and each person is unique. Detecting the source of a lesion to accompany the healing is complex. There is no injury without emotion. The body sends messages translating directly into physical manifestations that are more or less brutal. We can only remain humble.”
Delicately with his fingertips, and through the information he recovers, he brings to your body what it needs, with the right pressure and movement. With a gentle touch, through regular control points by taking your pulse at the wrists or by the arch of your foot, he rebalances your body.
” I do not force the body. I am not a fan of cracking vertebrae. I am a vehicle to help. I do not heal. I help feeling better. I follow an energetic process to free organs. I rebalance the energies on the path to healing.”
Whether you are in severe re-education or rebalancing, or whether you have hurt your back, Romain follows the same approach. “It is important to have a holistic approach and to consider each one’s environment. I am a fan of the creation of the discipline of manual medicine which would cover the different practices to accompany the body: chiropractic, osteopathy, kinesiology, physical therapy. We all have a manual approach to the body.”
Romain arrived in St Barts at the age of 8 and grew up on the island. He left the island in 9th grade to study in Guadeloupe. He then studied medicine for a year at the University of the West Indies and continued in a physiotherapy school in Paris. He kept training with a school in osteopathy which has a holistic approach to the body: the Conservatoire Supérieur de l’Ostéopathie Française, in Toulouse, for 5 years.
He then opened his osteopathic physiotherapy practice in Toulouse and met with great success. When he came back to St Barts for a temporary replacement, he had to stay there against all odds. He gave up his beautiful patient base in Toulouse, to start from scratch in St Barts. For more than 2 years, he developed a local clientele and now enjoys a fine reputation.
Married to a local woman, Romain is enjoying his new life. The father of 3, his life is very organized between his work, sport and his family. He is quite fit and healthy, emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
“It is essential to take care of both yourself and your lifestyle. Having a healthy diet, exercising regularly, avoiding drinking too much alcohol … A healthy daily life, creating a routine is essential. ‘You will find in food the medicine to cure you’ is a famous saying that is at the heart of my vision. We are not magicians. We cannot fix lifestyle habits that are destructive to the body (and mind). People must first take charge of their own life before thinking that a therapist can do everything.
Some people come for no particular reason. Just for prevention, maintenance, to boost their energy, remove tension: prevention is even better than cure.”
