Arthur, a 12-year-old boy, has already traveled to over 50 countries with his father, Pierre Brouwers, a documentary filmmaker. He approaches the world with a curious and critical perspective. From the age of 4, he has taken viewers on his adventures through the Arthur Around the World series, which is available on Gulli, TV5 Monde, and YouTube.
LA PREMERE QUESTION N’EST PEUT-ETRE PAS UTILE COMPTE TENU DU CHAPEAU
. What’s the reason behind all your travel ?
I travel frequently as my father’s profession involves creating documentary films for television around the globe. He directs both the ” Discover the world ” and “Arthur Around the World” series. Additionally, our family frequently moves between St. Barths, New York, and Brussels.
. What is your usual routine when you travel for a shoot?
When I explore a new country, my father and I film from dawn until dusk, capturing the most captivating sites and locations. I take numerous photographs and our travels are always guided by knowledgeable and friendly experts who provide insightful explanations of our surroundings. During transportation, whether on a plane or other modes of travel, I read, draw, watch documentaries, or do my homework.
. How is your academic progress coming along?
When I travel, I am able to keep up with my studies thanks to the Internet. My classmates or teachers send me the lessons and assignments to help me stay on track with the curriculum. This way, I am don’t fall behind when I am back.
. What country left the strongest impression on you?
When I visited Tanzania, it was a memorable experience for me. It was my first time exploring the savannah and witnessing the incredible wildlife such as giraffes, lions, antelopes, elephants, hippos, buffalos, cheetahs, ocelots, and more. I also had the opportunity to meet the Hatzabe tribe, who live in the savannah in a primitive way. I spent half a day with them, and I learned about their way of life. We went hunting together and caught a dik-dik, which we then ate. They also taught me how to shoot with a bow and how to find little bee nests to collect honey and enjoy it.
– What destinations are at the top of your travel bucket list?
The world is vast and there are always many places to explore! I would love to go to Nepal or Bhutan to see the temples and mountains of the Himalayas. I am also very interested in visiting Japan, Namibia, or Bali.
. Could you tell me about your connection to St. Barths?
When I was younger, I used to come to the island for vacation, but a few years ago we made several films about the island for the Gulli channel as part of the Arthur Around the World series. We then created an album that explains to children how their parents and grandparents used to live. Now, I spend part of my time here and even attend school on the island.
. What is your favorite country?
It depends. Iceland has the most incredible landscapes, and the people are so friendly. Their ice cream is the best in the world!
When it comes to food, I discovered a lot of delicious and original dishes in China. And for wildlife, Uganda is my top choice. I was able to get close to gorillas and chimpanzees there, and the country has a diverse range of animal species thanks to its mix of jungle and savannah habitats.
. Is there a reason why you always wear red ?
I’m always dressed in red when I’m shooting because it’s the dress code for the TV show. Many people assume that red is my favorite color, but that’s not the case. Actually, my favorite color is navy blue !
. What is the most unconventional form of transportation you have taken?
I think it’s the glider. It was in Belgium. It’s quite unique because there’s no engine, and you only hear the sound of the wind as you soar through the air. It’s also very environmentally friendly.
. What insights have you gained from traveling to both affluent and impoverished countries?
Yes, I have seen very poor countries like India or Uganda and very rich ones like Monaco or the United Arab Emirates. It was shocking for me to see children working in the fields for barely a dollar a day, money that goes to their parents. Here, children do not realize how fortunate they are to be able to go to school. In poor countries, many children dream of going to school but do not have the opportunity to do so.
. In light of the effects that global warming will have on the next generation, what solutions do you see to combat the issue?
I find it intriguing that we discuss ecology so much and put in so much effort, yet in some countries, people drive massive SUVs and don’t care about conserving energy. What’s the point of our actions at home if we don’t extend them elsewhere?
It’s essential to have a global movement to address the issue of climate change because it affects the entire planet.
. What, in your opinion, will be the means of transportation of the future?
I think the future of transportation lies in autonomous electric cars, provided we can develop a solution for lithium batteries. These cars have the potential to solve a lot of traffic congestion problems. I also think that public transportation will transition to autonomous buses. However, finding an ecological alternative to kerosene for airplanes will be a complex challenge. For individual transport, I believe that there will be lanes only for bicycles and scooters.
